Attila Fülöp, State Secretary for Social Affairs at the Ministry of Interior, has declared a Red Alert from Monday at 8 PM until Friday, based on the weather forecast from HungaroMet, the ministry informed MTI.
The Red Alert serves two main purposes:
- To raise public awareness of the extreme weather conditions.
- To ensure that during this special protocol, all social institutions must accept homeless individuals when notified by dispatchers, regardless of their usual services.
According to the statement, night shelters in Hungary and Budapest are currently at 84% capacity, meaning there are still enough available spaces, and no one has to spend the night on the streets.
The ministry also issued an important reminder: If you see a homeless person in distress, call the regional dispatch service, which can take immediate action.
The statement emphasized during this special emergency protocol that protecting lives is the top priority in homeless services.
