He has been writing on jazz for decades, and has published two books on improvised music.

The colorful story of jazz is linked to the history of great American cities that have played a decisive role in the inception and evolution of this genuine American art form. New Orleans is generally known as the cradle where jazz was born in the beginning of the 20th century. Chicago was the next step where the music began to blossom and developed into various directions. Kansas City was home of a special type of big band music culminating in the swing period. Los Angeles nurtured the West Coast/cool style, while New York has become the jazz center of the world. During its first hundred years jazz, originally music for dance and entertainment, has developed into a genre on par with contemporary composed music, focusing on improvisation and rhythm. The lecture, based on personal experiences, illustrated by music samples and photos, follows the route of jazz from South to North, from West to East, introducing the places and styles that have been associated with this vibrant form of music.

Everyone is welcome at the event!
