Drivers who ignore winter weather are the leading cause of car accidents

Police

Some drifted off the road and stopped overturning, others lost control of the car and overturned it, a man crashed into a power pole that broke in half and fell onto the car. The best way to avoid accidents is to warn the police themselves and follow these cautioning examples.

A 33-year-old man was driving his car on the evening of January 8, 2021, around 10:30 p.m., on road number 3405 in the direction of Nádudvar. Arriving at the 20th-kilometer sign, the driver drifted off the road with the vehicle under hitherto unclear conditions and stopped on the side. The man suffered serious injuries in the accident, and he was taken to the hospital by ambulance staff. In the scene, police found that the car was fitted with heavily worn summer tires.

On Saturday, Jan. 9, at about 1 p.m., a 17-year-old girl was driving her car on the outskirts of Egyek on 3315 Road. According to the primary data, she did not choose her speed according to road and visibility conditions, so she lost control of the car and overturned it. The young driver suffered minor injuries.

A 26-year-old man had an accident in Berettyóújfalu on January 11, 2021, at around 9 p.m. With his car, he slipped on a snowy road and crashed into an electric pole that broke in two as a result of the collision and crashed into the car. According to the primary medical opinion, the man suffered minor injuries.

The police hereby draw the attention of drivers to the fact that the typical causes of accidents during winter are accidents resulting in leaving the track and maintaining an inappropriate following distance. Driving problems can lead to an accident sooner, e.g. driving too close to another vehicle, sudden acceleration and braking, approaching a bend at high speed, or sudden and intense braking.

In winter, the driver must accelerate and decelerate the vehicle more carefully, and the brake pedal must be handled with special care. Adherence to the speed limits must be paid even more attention, it is absolutely necessary to drive slower than the speed allowed by the TRAFFIC when it is necessary to adapt to the set road conditions.

It cannot be stressed enough that a summer tire hardens at temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius, does not stick properly and – regardless of the moisture of the asphalt – becomes slippery, so we ask that anyone who has not already done so should immediately replace their summer tires for the winter! Remember, road users themselves can do the most to ensure road safety and avoid accidents by complying with the rules and paying attention to each other.
