The Debrecen District Court sentenced a 47-year-old man from Hajdúbagos, who was detained in Hungary on the basis of a European arrest warrant, to one year’s imprisonment for suspended prisoners for three years, a spokesman for the Debrecen tribunal told MTI.
According to the statement of Dénes Dobó, the court handed down the sentence without trial. A German court issued a European arrest warrant against the accused last January, on the basis of which the Hungarian authorities arrested and detained him on 10 June this year.
On June 11, the Metropolitan Court ordered the criminal supervision of the accused on surrender, terminating it if the European Arrest Warrant is not received within forty days of the order. The observance of the criminal supervision was ordered by a technical device following the movement, with the fact that the accused cannot leave Hajdú-Bihar county or change his place of residence without a permit.
The accused feared being transported to Germany, where he would go to jail, so he cut off the motion tracker from his leg and hid at his former job at a construction site where he was then captured by police.
