The Debrecen Public Prosecutor’s Office brought charges of aggravated robbery against three young men who attacked passengers in a train cabin.
According to the indictment, the three defendants have known each other for a long time, traveled together on a passenger train to Debrecen on the morning of January 20, 2022. Two young men got off at the Kaba railway station and sat opposite each other in one of the cabins. After departure, the younger man entered the compartment, where he asked for HUF 200 for a train ticket. The victims said that they did not have any money, at which point the accused became aggressive and told them that he had recently been released from prison and because he did not have access to his drugs, he was upset and would abuse them if they did not give them money.
The victims were very scared by the man’s threat, so one of them handed over a HUF 200 coin. The older man and the juvenile defendant entered the cabin, locked the door behind them, and then the juvenile offender sat down on the seat next to the door, while his companions continued to threaten the passengers in order to get more cash.
The older offender took out a wallpaper cutter and a metal hammer while threatening to stab the victims to give them more money. Because of this, one of them gave the perpetrators an additional HUF 4,000, and then the two adult defendants also sat down in the booth and started talking loudly about how they could get the victim’s laptop and shoes.
In the meantime, the passenger train arrived at the Hajdúszoboszló railway station, when the victims said that Hajdúszoboszló was their destination and asked the accused for permission to get off. The perpetrators accompanied the two men to the door of the train car, who hurriedly got off, while the accused continued to travel on the train.
No one was injured during the crime, the older victim suffered HUF 4,200 in damage, which was not recovered.
During the investigation conducted by the Hajdúszoboszló Police Department, the two adult defendants admitted their actions.
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Debrecen brought charges against the defendants under arrest for the crime of armed robbery and attempted robbery at the Hajdúszoboszló District Court.
In its indictment, the district prosecutor’s office recommended that the adult defendants be sentenced to prison and suspended from public affairs, while the juvenile offender is ordered to undergo correctional education, as well as the confiscation of the tools of the crime shown in the photo.
