A 15-year-old girl in Emőd may have killed her newborn child. According to the press, the girl cut the baby’s umbilical cord with a sharp object after the birth, then stuffed paper in the baby’s mouth mouth and threw her into a neighbor’s garden.
The Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Police Headquarters initiated criminal proceedings against a 15-year-old girl from Emőd due to the well-founded suspicion of committing the crime of homicide.
According to the police, the girl gave birth to a healthy newborn child in the yard of their family home on Friday evening. However, the mother left the little girl unattended in the neighbor’s garden. The 15-year-old girl became ill after giving birth, so her relatives called the emergency services, who took her to hospital. While treating the patient, it was discovered that the teenager had given birth not long before.
Based on the information obtained, the police patrols found the little girl, who was handed over to the employees of the ambulance service, who took her to hospital. However, the newborn girl died in the hospital.
Tamás Dobi, the press officer of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Police Headquarters, told the press that the 15-year-old girl denied giving birth during her interrogation, but this is refuted by the evidence obtained so far. The 15-year-old girl was taken into custody and her arrest has been initiated.
Zsolt Jogg, the deputy spokesperson of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Prosecutor’s Office, said that the prosecutor’s office proposed the arrest of the girl suspected of murder for the injury of a person under the age of 14.
