The Debrecen District Prosecutor’s Office accuses the man who did not return the vehicle bought by his company on loan to the bank of the crime of embezzlement.
According to the indictment, the perpetrator was the managing director of the business company from August 2020, and a year and a half earlier he bought a van with a leasing contract. In November 2020, liquidation proceedings were initiated against the defendant’s company, so the bank, as the owner, called on the company to return the vehicle. The perpetrator did not comply with this, kept the vehicle with him despite repeated requests and continued to use it.
The man and one of his employees dismantled the vehicle’s engine and transmission in April 2022, and later the platform was also dismantled. The perpetrator transported and hid the parts in two garages in Debrecen, then had the vehicle parked next to Highway No. 4 to take it from there later. During the investigation, the Debrecen police confiscated the disassembled parts and returned them to the bank, which, as the aggrieved party, requested compensation for its damages in the proceedings.
The perpetrator caused more than HUF 6 million in damage to the owner, of which almost HUF 3.5 million was recovered by returning the parts.
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Debrecen brought charges against the accused at the District Court in Debrecen for the crime of embezzlement. In his indictment, he suspended the imposition of a prison sentence and proposed that the district court oblige him to pay the remaining damages to the victim.
