A man from Hajdú-Bihar county caused a serious accident while driving drunk

The Debrecen Traffic Prosecutor’s Office brought charges against the man who crashed into a bus while driving on the main road for the crime of driving while intoxicated.

According to the indictment, on May 13, 2023, around 9:00 p.m., the defendant was driving from Debrecen in the direction of Mikepércs on highway number 47, having consumed a large amount of alcoholic beverages and not wearing his seat belt before driving.

At the place and time of the accident, visibility was at night without public lighting, and the weather conditions did not make traffic difficult.

Due to the man’s drunkenness and high degree of inattention, he crossed into the opposite traffic lane and there, the front of the car collided with the regularly traveling bus, which was carrying several passengers. As a result of the collision, the defendant’s vehicle spun and came to rest on the dirt and grass curb.

As a result of the collision, one passenger of the bus suffered an injury that took more than 8 days to heal. The accused suffered serious, life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred as a result of the defendant’s multiple KRESZ rule-breaking behavior and the victim was injured.

The investigation in the case was conducted by the Debrecen Police Department.

The Debrecen District Prosecutor’s Office brought charges against the defendant, who admitted to committing the crime, for the crime of driving while intoxicated causing serious bodily harm at the Debrecen District Court. In the indictment for the issuance of a criminal sentence, the district prosecutor’s office proposed that the district court, based on the content of the documents, impose a suspended prison sentence on the defendant and ban him from driving road vehicles for a longer period of time, without conducting a trial.
