On the night of March 17, 2023, the neighbors reported to the police that two men appeared at the construction site opposite them with a truck and hurriedly started loading bags of cement into the cargo area. The two strangers immediately started running when they saw the police, but they didn’t get far, they were caught.
The detectives soon realized that this was not the only crime they could be charged with. In the months before their arrest, a total of 11 construction sites were broken into in and around Debrecen. They took everything they could, cement, dowels, tools, and machines. It also turned out that the van left behind in Pallag was not theirs. Days earlier, it was tied up at a site in Debrecen, they visited three construction sites with it and then parked it back as if nothing had happened. The next evening, they drained diesel from a truck, refueled the truck, and headed for Pallag.
The Criminal Division of the Debrecen Police Department investigated the two residents of Hajdúsámson on suspicion of 12 counts of theft and arbitrary taking of a vehicle. After questioning them, the investigators took them into custody, and the court ordered the arrest of the 25-year-old man, while his 18-year-old companion could defend himself at large. The criminal prosecutors conducted a search of the suspects and found and confiscated dozens of machine tools and construction materials. The police performed the necessary procedural actions and sent the documents to the prosecutor’s office.
