A horrific assault took place in Debrecen: a man beat another so badly that he was blinded in one eye.
The man told RTL Híradó that the attack happened after he bought wine for two homeless acquaintances and then confronted one of them for stealing 5,000 forints from him.
“He snapped while we were drinking, grabbed me by the throat, threw me to the ground and started hitting me in the head,” the victim described the assault. The severe blows caused his retina and iris to detach. The attack occurred in broad daylight on a residential estate in Debrecen.
The attacker’s companion watched the incident but intervened when he thought the beating had gone too far. Gábor then lost consciousness and the attackers left him lying unconscious on the ground, “frozen in blood,” as he put it. Gábor doesn’t know how long it took him to regain consciousness, but he was alerted by the voices of passersby, but by then he couldn’t see anything. He asked them for help.
The police have launched an investigation into grievous bodily harm.
