Five men arrested after allegedly stealing tonnes of copper and tools in Debrecen

According to police, members of the group stole several hundred kilograms of copper and various tools from a business premises in Debrecen. Investigators arrested the suspects, and a court has ordered their pre-trial detention.

The Criminal Department of the Debrecen Police Department has launched criminal proceedings against five men on suspicion of theft. According to the investigation, the men repeatedly arrived at a business premises in different vehicles from May this year, stealing copper and various tools worth several million forints.

During their latest operation in August, security guards interrupted them, and police officers arrested three of the suspects at the scene. Investigators identified the other members of the group within a short time and arrested them in recent days.

The investigation also revealed that one of the men had placed another vehicle’s registration plate on a car that had been withdrawn from circulation. He will therefore also face charges for misuse of a unique identification mark.

The men were questioned on suspicion of theft and subsequently taken into police custody. A court later ordered their pre-trial detention.
