Daniel Bode equalized in the 71st minute Tuesday as Hungary held Turkey to a 1-1 draw in World Cup qualifying.
Turkey dominated the first half with forwards Burak Yilmaz and Alper Potuk both missing several chances, before the hosts finally went ahead in the 63rd when Yilmaz headed in a cross from close range. But Hungary drew level after a throw-in straight into the penalty area was poorly defended by Turkey, allowing Bode to shoot the ball into the top left corner.
Turkey piled on the pressure to try and get the win in the closing minutes but Hungary hung on for a point that boosts its chances of finishing second in Group D behind favourite the Netherlands.
Hungary has 11 points from six games, with Turkey on seven.
