Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has asked the Bavarian interior minister to brief him about what punishment was imposed on the person who invaded the field waving a large rainbow flag during the Hungarian anthem being played ahead of the Germany-Hungary Euro 2020 match on June 23.
In a letter addressed to Joachim Herrmann, Szijjártó said the Hungarian national team had been subjected to an “unprecedented insult” before the kick-off. It is also difficult to understand why the incident came as a surprise to the organisers who were well aware of the “efforts to create artificial political tension” before the match, Szijjártó said.
