Debrecen Jazz Festival (or Debrecen Jazz Days) is organized at Retro Sörkert (Str. Nádor, next to Malompark) with the intention to introduce the audience the new leader jazz musicians of the forthcoming years.
During the three days of the event, the visitors are provided nine bands with forty-four Hungarian musicians, included nine artists from Debrecen. Apart from the traditional opening and closing concerts of the local jazz-quintet and Dixieland orchestras, the audience can also enjoy the performance of the Step Time Band which has been re-organized this year, as well as several other orchestras, just like the one with the talented local trumpeter, Gábor Subicz.
The visitors of the festival, who are interested in jazz music, are offered to get encountered with those newly organized bands and entrant musicians who belong to the youngest generation of the Hungarian jazz rank. For instance, the three winners of the Vilmos Jávori Jazz Drum Competition will give a concert at the festival.
The Dresch Quartet will also introduce their new record with the title Fuhun. The members of the orchestra are well-known representatives of the Hungarian etno jazz style.
Fortunately, the festival’s programmes are extremely diverse this year. Among the styles we can find Dixieland, hard-bop, fusion, smooth jazz, neo bop, ethno jazz or modern mainstream.
