Fully 171 Covid patients, mostly elderly and suffering from an underlying illness, died over the past 24 hours in Hungary, while 5,415 infections were registered, bringing the total over the course of the pandemic to 265,003, koronavirus.gov.hu said on Thursday.
The death toll stands at 6,451 while 77,362 have made a recovery. The number of active infections stands at 181,190, while 7,869 patients are in hospital, 645 on ventilators. Fully 43,923 people are in official home quarantine, while the number of tests carried out has risen to 2,216,880.
Most of the infected have been registered in Budapest (53,901) and Pest County (34,142), followed by the counties of Győr-Moson-Sopron (16,425), Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén (15,635), Hajdú-Bihar (14,709) and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg (13,455). Tolna County (4,617) has the least number of infections.
Meanwhile, 25 hospitals nationwide have been selected to vaccinate health-care workers against Covid-19, the government’s coronavirus press centre told MTI. Budapest’s Honvéd, South-Pest Centrum, Szent János and Szent Imre hospitals, the Korányi Pulmonology Institute and Semmelweis University will serve as vaccination facilities, while in the provinces the central hospitals of each county will serve the purpose. The hospitals have been selected to allow for timely preparations before the vaccine arrives in Hungary, the press office said.
