A mobile water quality monitoring laboratory – which an outstanding innovation not only in Hungary, but also in Central Europe – will be launched by a joint investment of the University of Debrecen and the University of Oradea.
The quality monitoring system can examine and evaluate surface water, quickly, accurately and cost-efficiently, thus the result obtained can be used for meeting the required environmental standards in economy, education and research in both countries.
The mobile laboratory, which is to be set up between May 2013 and December 2014, is funded by the European Union with 800.000 Euros.
“By now water has become strategic element” – said dr. Alex Sándor Nagy, leader of the Hydrobiology Department of the UD. Management of water quantity issues – floods, droughts – is primarily and engineering task, but water quality problems require a hydro-biological approach. The disasters of recent years, like the cyanide and heavy metal poisonings, red mud disaster call the attention to the need of laboratories like this.
