Number of applicants for the Nursing MA course doubled.
Nurses play an important role in the Hungarian healthcare system, although their moral and financial recognition is lower than in other European countries. However, a positive process has started partly due to the salary raisings, which is still not enough to stop the emigration of nurses.
In Hungary the number of nurses per capita is 638,4, while this number in the European Union is 853,5. According to professionals, there is a lack of 6-7thousand nurses in Hungary.
In 2011, 46.000 nurses were working in the country, but only 4,269 had completed a university degree course in nursing. The training time for these courses is 4 years, after which the MA course lasts 1,5 years.
Last year 43 students applied for the BA, while this year they were 61. As for the MA, the number of previous applicants (33) doubled.
Today is the International Nurses Day, which commemorates the birthday of Florence Nightingale, a British nurse and a prominent figure in modern nurse training.
