University of Debrecen offers its students a number of special trainings at the Faculty of Public Health.University of Debrecen is the only one higher educational institution in the country that has a Faculty of Public Health. The faculty’s health psychology and complex rehabilitation master trainings are unique in the country.
Faculty of Public Health was founded in 2005 in Debrecen and the number of students studying there has multiplied during the past 12 years; more than a thousand students received their degrees at the faculty so far. Graduates of the faculty can find jobs at government offices, NGO’s or in health administration, health institutions, ministries, local governments or other agencies.
According to Margit Balázs dean of the faculty, there are two B.Sc. trainings, five master’s programs and eight postgraduate courses available for students in Debrecen. Apart from these trainings, the faculty offers various courses in English, too. For instance there are undergraduate and graduate tarinings on public health or physiotherapist and complex rehabilitation master’s degree courses in English.
From this February, students will be offered a special sport rehabilitation master’s degree course, while from September 2017 there will be a dietitian specialization of nursing and patient care trainings. Margit Balázs also said that the faculty is planning to launch a sport organizer and health promotion training in the near future and they also would like to have a special health journalist course, too.
The Faculty of Public Health is very popular among foreign students as well; there are about 170 students from abroad studying in various health trainings of the faculty.
The Faculty of Public Health can be proud of its scientific accomplishments; there is a Public Health Research Group operating at the university for ten years, which is supported by MTA (Hungarian Scientific Academy). Researches and experiments done in the Institute of Preventive Medicine are also internationally recognized; WHO (World Health Organization) declared the institution a Social Vulnerability and Health Coopeartion Center in 2012.
