The founding professor of the research workshop was welcomed by István Balázs, a professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Debrecen, on the occasion of his 65th birthday. A volume of legal history, philosophy of law and administrative law studies was also published for the occasion.
The Faculty of Law of the University of Debrecen hosted a special event on the 65th birthday, the staff and admirers of the faculty greeted Professor István Balázs, who has been teaching at the faculty since the resumption of law training in Debrecen 25 years ago. At the ceremony, Veronika Szikora, Dean of the Faculty of Law, emphasized that in the last quarter of a century, thanks to the work of István Balázs, a new generation of lawyers had grown up and started working.
One of the most important values in a professor’s work is what his students can show. The Department of Administrative Law headed by István Balázs, among others, dropped out of habilitated associate professors and university professors who applied with monographs,
– said István Balázs.
Zsuzsanna Árva, Deputy Dean of Education at Faculty of Law, remembered that the Géza Marton Doctoral School of Political Science and Law was established in 2006, where István Balázs organized the Administrative Law Workshop. During this period, in addition to the training of lawyers, the master’s degree in administration, public administration organizer and public administration manager also started. Also at the initiative of the professor, separate textbooks were prepared for each major.
In addition, he supervised and directed the PhD studies of almost all the current lecturers of the department as consultants. Thanks to him, a real research workshop was established at the faculty,
– Zsuzsanna Árva added.
I feel extremely honored to have been a co-author and editor of a volume that pays tribute to the head of the department,
– said Attila Barta, a former student of the professor.
He said of the book: it consists of approximately one million keystrokes and is half a thousand pages long and is the result of the joint work of 34 lecturers and one graduate student. The foreword in the publication, written by Dean Veronika Szikora and Deputy Dean Zsuzsanna Árva, is followed by a description of István Balázs’ professional career. In addition to Hungarian, the greeting recorded by András Zs. Varga is followed by studies of legal history, philosophy and administrative law in English, partly in French and partly in German.
