The University of Debrecen presented professional lectures in the II. Eco Expo

University

UD experts gave a presentation on the use of precision tools and technologies, practical experience, and the latest research results in plant protection and crop production in Hajdúnánás.

Organic farming is an integral part of agricultural production. A farming and food production system that prohibits or restricts the use of certain pesticides, fertilizers, soil improvers, and artificial veterinary medicines or yield enhancers. Producers and breeders prefer natural processes. And that requires a lot of expertise. The task of Öko Expo and the university is knowledge transfer

– Endre Harsányi, the rector of the University of Debrecen (DE) responsible for agricultural innovation, told hirek.unideb.hu.

In Hungary, only 6% of the production areas are organically farmed, it was said at the second expo in Hajdúnánás.

According to László Stündl, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management, organic farms equally need the most modern tools and the latest research results.

Organically produced plants or farmed animals have a natural adaptive capacity to produce foods of special quality. The nutrient composition of products from such farms is much more complex, as evidenced by UD research at the molecular level. DE’s mission is to help and support organic farmers with its knowledge base

– emphasized László Stündl.

The main topics of this year’s professional conference were precision technologies, the transition to organic farming, and the possibilities of public catering reform.

The Innovation Prize of the University of Debrecen, awarded in the framework of the Eco Expo, was given to an entirely domestic agricultural innovation: József Schmidt earned the recognition for the development of a special soil aeration technology. At the event in Hajdúnánás, the visitors of the fair could also get acquainted with the products of the food factory of the University of Debrecen.

The Eco Expo and Fair was first organized by the National Chamber of Agriculture two years ago. About 40 exhibitors took part in this year’s event. In addition to the exchange of professional knowledge and experience, the aim of the organizers was to bring organic farming closer to the people.
