The University of Debrecen University and National Library (DEENK) organized a roundtable discussion on the occasion of the International Open Acces Week. At the online event, the XXI. century practices were discussed by experts from different disciplines.

The starting point of the discussion was the resolution issued by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology on 18 October on the establishment of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data management and the Hungarian research ecosystem.

Taking into account the expectations of open science, DEENK has created a data repository service based on the FAIR principle, specifically tailored to the needs of researchers at the University of Debrecen, which allows users to share their data in addition to storing research data, thus supporting educational activities, scientific work as well.

Explaining the aims of the discussion, the Director-General of DEENK emphasized that the online opportunity provides an opportunity for representatives of different disciplines to review the guidelines and share their own experiences.

Prior to the discussion, Ádám Száldobágyi, data steward of the University of Debrecen, gave a lecture entitled “Data is the new oil”.

The underlying content of the name is that, as oil, raw data is not valuable in itself. The value is created when we collect them completely and with great precision and combine them with other data, the expert explained in his lightning presentation.

Ádám Száldobágyi emphasized that

we are living in the fourth industrial revolution, which is a data revolution, in which the sharing and use of research data play a significant role, for which there is a significant demand from researchers.

During the discussion, the participants discussed the role and significance of the national resolution, which means a new approach in scientific research and in scientific life.

Participants discussed the importance of research data, the challenges involved in managing it, and national and international standards, as well as evaluating the DE Database for researchers at the institution, developed by DEENK based on Harvard University.
