The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen organized a conference on Friday in memory of Imre Tegyey (1930–2021), a former teacher who died at the age of 91.
Imre Tegyey is a significant representative of 20th century Hungarian antiquity. His main area of research was the Mycenaean age, but his studies were also published in Greek literary, historical, Greek-Latin, and Indo-European linguistics. His best-known work was the Old Greek-Hungarian Dictionary, started by Miklós Szabó and Alajos Györkösy, containing almost 53,000 entries, which was completed together with István Kapitánffy in the 1980s on behalf of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The dictionary is one of the greatest achievements of Hungarian ancient science in the 20th century.
At the memorial meeting held in the Main Building of the University of Debrecen, 12 lectures on the most varied ancient topics were given in 4 sections.
