The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen and the Csokonai Theater have agreed to expand their cultural and educational relations; thanks to the agreement, drama teacher training can also start at the university in the future.
According to the university’s press service, the cooperation agreement was signed by Dean Róbert Keményfi and Péter Gemza, the director of the theater.
The Faculty of Humanities plans to expand the existing training offer by launching a drama pedagogy program, which they would like to expand in the field of dance later on. In addition, they want to offer an art history subject to students to fill a serious gap, the publication quoted Róbert Keményfi as saying.
The dean called the English subtitling of the Csokonai Theater’s performances an important area of the agreement, which provides an opportunity for both the participants in the University of Debrecen translation and interpreter training and the teachers and students of the foreign language teaching departments to get involved in the joint work.
Theater director Péter Gemza emphasized that through thousands of foreign students studying in the city and foreign-owned companies operating in the region, Debrecen has developed into an almost international city in recent years, which has led to the need to subtitle their performances in English.
According to the plans, the cooperation may expand in other areas in the future: the Csokonai Theater and the Faculty of Humanities plan to expand the English-language theater repertoire and to organize joint cultural festivals, including drama and dance, the university said.
