Professor Zoltán Szilvássy can lead the University of Debrecen for another four years. The appointment of the rector was handed over to the head of the university by President János Áder at Wednesday’s appointment ceremony in the Mirror Hall of the Sándor Palace, the institution said.
Professor Zoltán Szilvássy can continue as the first rector of the University of Debrecen, which is maintained by the foundation. Following the decision of the senate of the institution at its meeting in December 2021, Zoltán Szilvássy was nominated as rector for the board of trustees of the maintenance foundation, and the nomination was supported by the board. Following the appointment of the head of state, Zoltán Szilvássy – in his third term since 2013 – will manage the university for another four years.
In his rector’s application, he emphasized that at the beginning of the new rector’s cycle, in May 2022, almost three-quarters of a year after the change of model, an important goal was to optimize the transition to foundation operations.
He considers the development of the institution’s number one sectoral focus area, health sciences, and the health industry, to be a priority goal, to which a technical training and research portfolio with significant development potential will be added in the near future, in line with the region’s economic development needs.
The rector’s appointment of Professor Zoltán Szilvássy is for four years, until 30 April 2026.
