Luca Kozák, a finance and accounting student at the University of Debrecen, finished in second place in the 100-meter hurdles at the European Athletics Championships organized as part of the multisport European Championships. Law student Réka Szilágyi finished fourth in the javelin throw.
Thanks to his excellent form, Luca Kozák achieved historic success in Hungarian sports: the athlete studying finance and accounting at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen finished in second place in the continental competition with a national record time of 12.69.
Luca Kozák told hirek.unideb.hu that he came to the final motivated and felt that he could achieve a special success now.
I was confident, as I had already run 12:70 even before the European Championship, and I was tied with two other competitors for fourth place in the world rankings. I hoped that I would be able to improve on my previous results. I had a balanced performance in the qualifiers, produced an easy race, and after that, I stood up for the finals with the intention of achieving a very good time. I was focused on the final, but at the same time, I also enjoyed this race incredibly. I never think about anything while running, because it takes away my attention and can lead to trouble, so I just went forward. I felt the best in this race this year,
– said Luca Kozák.
The competitor advanced to second place in the semi-finals with a time of 12.69. Throughout the final, she ran in a very good rhythm, and just like in the preliminaries, only the Polish Pia Skrzyszowska proved to be better than her in the final as well.
