The students of Kossuth Lajos Gyakorló Gymnasium and Primary School of the University of Debrecen had an outstanding performance in the national finals of the Torna Student Olympiad. The students of the institution won 7 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals.
The Hungarian Student Sports Association for 2022/2023 announced the Student Olympics for the 36th time in the school year in all primary and secondary schools in the country. Elementary and high school students between the ages of 6 and 20 can compete in 10 sports: table tennis, athletics, floorball, futsal, grudge wrestling, handball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and gymnastics, as well as in player sports competitions and small schools’ sports competitions, in six age groups.
At this year’s national competition, the vocational school of the University of Debrecen was represented in the girls’ competition by 25 students, who also achieved resounding success compared to previous years.
I trusted the girls, but I never dreamed that we would win so many gold medals. In the “A” category, the girls fought hard, as we competed there together, and still do, with selected gymnasts. The high school girls individually took a very respectable 5th and 6th place behind the 4th place competitors of the Dunaújváros EC, Mária Antal, the team’s professional leader and preparatory teacher, told hirek.unideb.hu.
The boys also achieved excellent results at the national gymnastics competition. The Kiskossuth boys’ team is in category “B” II. achieved 2nd place in his age group.
The team members: Kornél Birtha, Mátyás Csatáry, Soma Sík and Milán Györfi. They competed very well and did not have a bad practice. An individual competition was also announced in this age group, where there were a total of 69 competitors. That is why Milán Györfi’s 6th place is an outstanding result. He had very nice practices, all three times he missed the podium by a minimal margin. Birtha Kornél and Mátyás Csatáry got to know gymnastics this school year and they are constantly participating in the training sessions
– István Lakatos, the preparatory coach, evaluated the results.
