In addition to the wide-ranging, long-standing successful network of Western contacts, the University of Debrecen has in recent years placed great emphasis on cooperation with Eastern countries. We are convinced that the connection between Eastern and Western culture holds a lot of opportunities

– Rector Zoltán Szilvássy emphasized at the meeting, where Okszána Kiszil, Director of Coordination and Strategy, welcomed the staff of the Budapest embassy.

The head of the university presented the unique, horizontally and vertically organized industrial cooperation system of the University of Debrecen, built with around 400 corporate partners, whose members include giant enterprises such as BMW, General Electric, Roszatom, Richter and TEVA. He also highlighted the importance of the institution’s industry-sector cabinets, which serve knowledge-based economic development at the international level.

In connection with the development of high-value-added products, the rector highlighted the results achieved in the food and pharmaceutical industry and the operation of the institute established to promote them.

We ourselves can learn a lot from Asian culture and traditional Asian medicine, but at the same time, we could help our Vietnamese colleagues in the development and innovation processes, this mixed culture can open up new perspectives

– Zoltán Szilvássy opined.

Responding to the training, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Bich Thao stated that Vietnam and Hungary see the cultural and educational field as one of the cornerstones of their more than 70-year cooperation.

I also see the key to the future, the path to development, in collaborations combining Eastern and European cultures, for which well-trained human resources are essential. In addition to economic development goals, training is also of prime importance, showing that Vietnamese youth can now train at the best universities, for example here in Debrecen. Thank you for guaranteeing them the best conditions, they can integrate and receive the most up-to-date knowledge

– said the diplomat.

There are currently 221 Vietnamese students studying at the University of Debrecen, the largest number at the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Nguyen Thi Bich Thao called for an increase in the number of students, including the number of Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship recipients, to which Rector Zoltán Szilvássy noted that the University of Debrecen can also help its students with its own scholarship system, with a total of 6-700 thousand dollars per year. At the end of his visit to Debrecen, the ambassador also met with the Vietnamese students.
