The People’s Republic of China’s extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador accredited to Hungary recognized the high-quality work of students from the University of Debrecen (UD) and the Debrecen Vocational Training Center (DSZC) in Chinese language and culture. Gong Tao hosted the honored students and their teachers at his residence in Budapest.

At the ceremony, three outstanding university students—János Szekeres from the Faculty of Humanities, Csaba Fazekas from the Faculty of Informatics, and Liliána Sitku from the Faculty of Humanities—received the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship, which includes a monetary award.

Additionally, seven other winners, including students from the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Informatics, and the Faculty of Humanities at UD, as well as two students from DSZC, were awarded the Chinese Ambassador’s Prize.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Debrecen was established in the fall of 2019 through a cultural and educational partnership between the university and the Tianjin Foreign Studies University, aimed at promoting the teaching and popularization of Chinese language and culture. The institute offers Mandarin Chinese language courses at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.

The awarded students, both from higher education and vocational training, have been studying Chinese language and culture as an elective language course for several years.

This recognition also acknowledges the high-quality teaching work taking place at the UD Confucius Institute.
