During the 30th IT Professional Days, discussions were held on various topics, including the role of artificial intelligence in everyday life, cloud services, and future-oriented research and development opportunities at the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Debrecen. Students had the chance to meet with the faculty’s corporate and educational partners and participated in mock interviews at stands set up in the main hall.
The Faculty of Informatics at the University of Debrecen maintains close ties with local and international companies, which play a crucial role in areas such as info communication, data management, and artificial intelligence. These companies not only participate in the training of students but also offer them opportunities to gain practical experience. At the IT Professional Days held on October 24 and 25, 15 corporate partners presented their offerings, including representatives from DATASUNRISE, EPAM Systems, RDI Hungary, and Shapr3D.
In his opening speech, Márton Ispány, the educational dean’s deputy of the twenty-year-old Faculty of Informatics, highlighted the achievements of university IT education, which continually evolves in response to professional challenges, and emphasized the importance of training the next generation of IT specialists. He also noted that one of the goals of the IT Professional Days is to foster closer professional collaboration between students and companies.
In Hungary, the IT sector ranks among the top three fields offering the best career opportunities. Our students can directly learn from companies about the expectations they need to meet in the job market. For example, they can find out which soft skills and other competencies they need to develop to secure the ideal job. It has been observed in the region that obtaining a master’s degree greatly increases the chances of employment.
Zoltán Pecskay, the CEO of EDC Debrecen Nonprofit Kft., stated that companies settled in the city can find the best talent at the IT Professional Days.
“It is encouraging to see employers lining up for young talent at the faculty. A key goal for the city is to successfully attract not only the automotive industry and electromobility but also companies from other sectors, including IT. EDC is currently negotiating with several companies in this sector. The Faculty of Informatics plays an important role in this process, as it serves as the educational base for ensuring a long-term supply of professionals,” said Pecskay.
Zoltán Póser, the CEO of UD Catapult Nonprofit Kft., emphasized in his welcome speech that the university aims to establish research and educational collaborations with as many companies as possible in all areas of informatics.
“It is our task to bring the knowledge available at the University of Debrecen to the market. In the long term, it is crucial for scientific results to yield returns. We encourage everyone to brainstorm and engage in research programs and to reach out to UD Catapult, which can assist in achieving their goals,” added the CEO.
As part of the two-day program, students attended professional presentations covering topics such as AI solutions applicable in SAP, practical opportunities for software engineering, the role of artificial intelligence in education and multinational companies, and the emergence of cloud services in the corporate sector.
Additionally, an IT playground awaited university students, where they could explore a spider robot and learn about the Faculty of Informatics’ master’s program offerings, as well as the digitalization of sustainable industrial processes using data and AI.
