A job fair, exhibition, an international ISCAME conference, and a photo exhibition showcasing the history of the Department of Mechanical Engineering awaited participants on the first day of the 10th Mechanical Engineering Days at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Debrecen. The program, which started on Thursday, attracted great interest.

The three-day 10th Mechanical Engineering Days began on Thursday with a Mechanical Engineering Exhibition and Job Fair at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Debrecen. In the faculty’s aula, 34 large companies awaited university students, high school students, and corporate and academic professionals pursuing engineering studies. At the stands, companies presented their activities, products, internships, thesis and dissertation topics, and also offered job opportunities, writes hirek.unideb.hu.

The scientific vice-rector of the University of Debrecen emphasized at the opening that the Faculty of Engineering is one of the most dynamically developing faculties of the institution. Not only the university but also Debrecen has developed significantly in recent times.

“Many of the companies located in the city are present at this event. I hope that the exhibitors will find the students they need as employees, and the students will find the opportunities that suit them. The University of Debrecen provides internationally outstanding knowledge for this,” said László Csernoch.

Most of the 30 dual partner companies of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering were also represented at the event, as well as companies that carry out industrial orders for the Department of Mechanical Engineering in its renewed laboratories. The State Secretary for Employment Policy at the Ministry of Economic Development said that Debrecen can expect significant development in the near future, with the university’s engineering and technical training being important pillars.

“The companies that have recently arrived in our region came here in the hope that there is a sufficient quantity and quality of labor available. The unemployment rate of graduates in Hungary is currently four percent, eight to nine percent for those with vocational qualifications, and twenty percent for those who do not even have that. So knowledge must be adapted to the changing world,” said Sándor Czomba at the opening of the Mechanical Engineering Exhibition and Job Fair.

Another event of the Mechanical Engineering Days, the three-day, English-language ISCAME – 10th International Scientific Conference on Advances in Mechanical Engineering conference began in the afternoon. Nearly 250 people from 16 countries arrived at the conference, where they could follow 138 presentations and 40 posters.

The head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Debrecen explained that the main goal of the conference is to provide an opportunity for researchers and engineers working in industry, as well as practical experts, to meet, present their work, and share their experiences.

All the major Hungarian higher education institutions where mechanical engineering is taught were represented at the event. Participants presented their latest research results in 15 sections, from materials science to mechanics, manufacturing science, and fluid mechanics.

“Thanks to previous conferences, we have been able to establish research relationships with renowned foreign partner institutions such as the universities of Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Linz, as well as the German Helmholtz Institute. We believe it is important to continuously develop our education to meet the needs of companies,” said Tamás Mankovits, adding that several company laboratories have been established in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in recent times. For example, two weeks ago, thanks to the support of Engel-Hungary, they received an injection molding machine worth several tens of millions of forints, and in the coming weeks, they will also establish the Krones machine design laboratory.

The department head stated that those who applied for the mechanical engineering program at the University of Debrecen made a very good choice, because with this diploma, they can find their place not only in the mechanical industry but also in agriculture, the food industry, the energy industry, and the automotive industry.

As a side event of the Mechanical Engineering Days, a photo exhibition titled “Our Golden Age, the History of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in Pictures” was opened in the library of the Faculty of Engineering, showcasing the 50-year history of the department.
