The frontage of the Great Protestant Church of Debrecen will be renovated from 962 million Forints, given by the European Union. The renewal would start next spring.
Only the western tower of the Great Church is opened to the public at the present. Besides the renovation of the frontage, the opening of the eastern tower is also part of the project. The tower would be transformed, so the handicapped could use it; an elevator would be built in and the old clockwork would also be opened to the visitors. The roof covering is under construction, the old heating system would be replaced with solar cells. According to the conceptions, under the galleries there will be developed a multifunctional quadrangle, where exhibitions, extraordinary history classes, pedagogical courses will be organized.
