The Institute of English and American Studies of the University of Debrecen organizes DEBate, a debate competition for high school students, for the second time.
Teams of three students will compete in three regional semi-finals, and finally the best teams go to the final that is about to be organized at the University of Debrecen. The semi-finals are held this autumn and the final will be organized at the beginning of 2017.
About the competition:
The qualified teams will debate specific topics, which were previously drawn. Among the topics, there are cultural and social ones; members of the teams will have to express their opinions clearly and convincingly. They also have to refute or confirm the arguments of the opposing teams.
Eight teams per region will be qualified for the semi-finals that are held in Debrecen, Miskolc and Nyíregyháza.
DEBate is a good opportunity for high school students to try themselves out in debate situations and to practice their English. At the end of the competition, the competitors can win valuable prizes.
