Depending on its budgetary possibilities, the Municipality of Debrecen tries to renovate consulting rooms from its own budget, beyond the ones renewed through tenders. That is how the medical facility at 117 Kassai Road was fully renovated last year, and now the one in Tégláskert Street has been completed. The cost of its renovation reached gross 49,521,500 HUF.
Vice Mayor Diána Széles recalled at the press conference held on 7 October 2020 on the occasion of the renovation: when years ago, as a city leader also responsible for healthcare, she first met general practitioners, their first – and perhaps most important – request for the municipality was to launch a programme for the full renovation of medical practices. Since 2015, the city has renovated a total of 11 healthcare properties with general practitioners’ practices from more than 1 billion HUF, with the assistance form the Government, as part of the New Phoenix Plan. Two such properties have been renewed from solely municipal resources: the one at 117 Kassai Road and the other at 51 Tégláskert Street. Currently, the building at 20 Darabos Street is being reconstructed. All the above facts allow the municipality to help the success of both the Caring City and the Green City Programmes, as the public institutions thus renovated can be maintained with less energy consumed. With regard to the current fight against the epidemic, Diána Széles took this opportunity as well to express her gratitude to the general practitioners for their tremendous effort in this matter.
