A 73-year-old woman reported to the police on May 26, 2020, that a man had stolen 9 million forints from her the day before. The reporter told police that her phone rang around 7 pm on the 25th. At the other end of the line, someone introduced themselves as their granddaughter and told the elderly woman that she had an accident, so she urgently needs 2.7 million forints as she has to pay for the damage to the other driver. The alleged grandson specifically drew the woman’s attention to the fact that she can’t go for the money now, so she sends a friend for it. The victim believed the caller and handed the requested amount to an unknown man.
According to the investigation, this was not enough for the fraudsters. Seeing that they had managed to mislead their victim, they called her again and the “grandson” asked her for another 6.3 million forints. The woman did the same, giving a total of 9 million forints to a man unknown to her, thinking that she would help her grandson in trouble. It was not until hours later that the victim realized that she had been deceived.
The detectives of Hajdúszoboszló and the staff of the Hajdú-Bihar County Police Headquarters began to search for the perpetrators with great force. The Hajdúszoboszló Police Headquarters prosecuted them for a well-founded suspicion of fraud. The investigators carried out the necessary procedural steps and sent the resulting documents to the competent prosecutor’s office.
