The air quality has deteriorated in the Northeast due to the high concentration of particulate matter, and the air quality in Sajószentpéter is already dangerous, according to data from the National Center for Public Health (NNK).
According to NNK data
the air quality is unhealthy in Miskolc, Putnok, and Kazincbarcik. The air quality of Mosonmagyaróvár, Székesfehérvár, Százhalombatta, Tököl, Budapest, Kecskemét, Szeged and Debrecen was rated as objectionable.
According to the air pollution forecast of the National Meteorological Service, a significant change in air quality is unlikely, and the concentration of airborne dust may remain higher, permanently above the health limit, mostly in Borsod.
On Tuesday, a front zone is expected to pass through with significant precipitation and winds turning to the northwest, so the air quality in the northeast is likely to improve.
The air hygiene index system includes four categories: acceptable, objectionable, unhealthy, and dangerous.
NNK also wrote on Thursday that the air quality in Kazincbarcik, Putnok, and Sajószentpéter was unhealthy, while Dorog, Miskolc, and Mosonmagyaróvár received objectionable ratings.
The NNK previously drew attention to the fact that air pollution is hazardous for children, pregnant mothers, the elderly, and people suffering from chronic respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. They should avoid outdoor physical activity and be in the open air as much as possible.
According to NNK, however, it is important to ventilate the interior spaces with the help of a cross draft for a few minutes, at least twice a day, even in unfavorable outdoor air quality. According to the NNK, the use of incorrect heating methods during the heating season significantly affects air quality, so do not heat with wet or treated wood, plastic, or other waste, the organization requested.
