Two Christmas markets will open on Friday, November 15 in Budapest; Advent Basilica at Szent István Square and Vörösmarty Classic Xmas at Vörösmarty Square.
A 12-meter-high decorated Christmas tree will stand in Advent Basilica, and the stage will host various Advent-themed cultural performances, gospel, folk, jazz, and funk shows several times a week. The facade of the Basilica will be illuminated with a 3D light show every day from 5:30 pm. Advent Basilica has been awarded the title of “Best Christmas Market in Europe” four times.
There will also be a Christmas tree in Vörösmarty Square, as well as a free mini-train and a workshop where blacksmiths will demonstrate their skills.
Domestic exhibitors, artisans, and gastronomic vendors will offer traditional festive market food and many special delicacies at both Advent Basilica and Vörösmarty Classic Xmas. At every large kitchen in both Szent István Square and Vörösmarty Square, there will be one dish available at a fixed price of 1600 forints per day – the organizers promised.
Craftsmen, folk artists, industrial designers, and innovative creators offering modern designer products will also be present at both Christmas markets.
There will also be a nativity scene and a monumental Advent wreath in front of the Basilica in Szent István Square.
In keeping with tradition, there will also be charity initiatives at both markets. For example, the Hungarian Ecumenical Aid Service and the Together for Autistic People Foundation will be present at Szent István Square to draw attention to the importance of donating through festive campaigns.
