Beef and lamb will be processed at the new Kathi Farm Kft. facility.
Zoltán Kathi, the managing director of Kathi Farm Kft. said that the tender for the implementation of the plant was submitted under the rural development project in 2016, and it was positively evaluated in the autumn of 2017. Construction began in 2019 with a grant of HUF 264 million from the Hungarian state and the European Union.
Beef and lamb are the two most undervalued types of meat on the Hungarian market; we would like to change this by producing a premium quality, affordable beef, and lamb product family. We hope this will win the favor of customers, the managing director stated. He stressed that there are nearly thirty products in their portfolio, from burgers to grilled sausages to ham and dried meat.
Mayor László Papp emphasized the power of family businesses in his speech. One of the greatest values is that the Kathi family builds a future that a successive generational change can support.
László Kathi and Zoltán Kathi are the guarantee that we can plan for the long term in Debrecen if we think about the food industry and the future of this business. Family businesses represent an important key to development. It is important that this example spreads and appears in the economy of Debrecen, where the food industry is a traditional sector, the mayor said.
Zsolt Papp, Deputy State Secretary for Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, emphasized that one of the most pressing problems in agriculture is how the next generation can successfully follow its predecessor and bring positive value to the operation of the family business.
Today, we can see that the new generation can bring the business forward that has been in operation for two decades by using new innovative solutions, ideas, tools, and the invention of a new product, the deputy state secretary said.
According to László Pósán, Member of Parliament, it is to be welcomed that beef and lamb is processed here in Debrecen and not in Italy. This plant will provide jobs for the people here to support the development of Debrecen and the Hungarian economy.
