The Debrecziner Gourmet Festival will be held for the ninth time around the Békás Lake in Debrecen’s Big Forest (Nagyerdő) from June 13 to 15, organizers announced at a press conference.
László Papp (Fidesz-KDNP), Mayor of Debrecen, said that 23 renowned Hungarian restaurants will be showcased at the festival, with some of the country’s most well-known chefs — including Michelin-starred chefs — cooking at the event.
He added that the festival draws great interest each year, even though “it’s not easy to mobilize the country’s best gastronomic workshops.”
Zita Dobos, director of Főnix Kft., the company organizing the festivals, emphasized that a container kitchen will be set up in the Great Forest, where chefs will offer live cooking shows and tastings for attendees.
She noted that this year’s festival theme revolves around food from films, meaning visitors can expect to see dishes inspired by iconic movies served by the lake. Examples include:
-
Bilbo’s perfectly roasted smoky trout presented by Végállomás Bisztró & Wine,
-
Plum dumplings with almond mousse from Toss It Back, Bendegúz by Talu Restaurant,
-
Harry’s layered dessert and butterbeer panna cotta by Freedom Restaurant & Skybar,
-
and the bone marrow dish made famous by the film Szindbád.
Last year, nearly 6,000 people visited the gourmet festival, and this year an even more diverse selection will be offered, the director added.
Here comes the 9th Gourmet Festival – The program has been announced
The organizers aim to ensure everyone can enjoy the gourmet experience, so the festival will include options for those with food sensitivities, children’s menus at most venues, dedicated kids’ programs, and interactive cooking shows, according to Zita Dobos.
Each evening will be capped off with live music concerts:
-
June 13: Wolf Kati Band
-
June 14: Tóth Vera Band
-
June 15: Balázs Bolyki and B4
— as announced at the press conference.
