A tragedy almost happened in Debrecen on Monday when an elderly man fell into the elevator shaft in 71 István Street. The police are investigating the case.
On Monday afternoon, an unknown perpetrator forced the ground floor safety door of the elevator open in the 10 storey block of flats in 71 István Street. The open door then gave the impression that the elevator was waiting on the ground floor while, in reality, it was on the 10th floor. Unaware of this, the elderly man stepped across the door of the elevator and fell into the shaft. He survived the accident with scratches but a tragedy could have happened if the elevator had started to work meanwhile. The police are investigating the incident and are searching for the person who forced the safety door open.
