Encouraged by the example of Budapest and other international initiatives, a group of civilians took it into their heads that they will decorate the city by using knitting and crocheting skills.
About 20-25 people joined forces in Debrecen. They “adopted” 7 candelabra in the city center and decorated them on 8 June. The timing of the initiative was deliberate: the second Saturday in June is the World Day of Knitting. The decoration is a kind of gift for the whole city, the passers-by; for anyone who would like to stop for a minute to admire the candelabra in colourful “clothes”. Decorating one candelabrum sometimes takes the cooperation of 4-5 people who often work for hours.
