On Monday, members of the Debrecen Women’s Public Association handed over the Tree of Love to nearly 50 families in two locations. The association bought the very nice pine trees from the Christmas fundraising campaign, which a generous young entrepreneur couple from Debrecen provided them with a huge discount, according to the association’s announcement.
All of the families live in disadvantaged, difficult circumstances. The paci staff of the Debrecen Family Support Service invited those in need living in the district, the Forrás Mental Hygiene Center, and those in need living in the Tócóskerti Housing Estate. The trees were transported to the two locations by members of the association.
We also took Christmas candy to the children to whom we handed over the wood, and we arranged for them to make the ornaments on the wood themselves. Most of them said they could set up a Christmas tree for the first time in many years, so far they didn’t dare think about it. “It’s going to be a different atmosphere for the holiday, even if we live in poverty,” said a grandmother with eyes shining with joy. “The smell of pine also belongs to the holiday, but so far we’ve only imagined that in the room,” he added.
Many thanks to everyone who financially supported the association’s Christmas promotions. We are grateful to the couple from Debrecen who provided the pines with a great discount. For the 12th time, on Christmas day, the association is waiting for all those for whom the celebration of love is only about fighting for existence.
