Local News

The statue made for National Cohesion Day was dreamed up and realized by the Hortobágy Nature-Friendly and Cultural Leisure Association, the county government reported.

At the commemoration on June 4, after the speech of Mayor Ádám Jakab, Zoltán Pajna, the president of the Hajdú-Bihar County Local Government, said in his words that the 1100-year-old past of the Hungarians shows that we are here, we were born here, and we think this is our future too. According to him, there is a parallel between history and the present, as we did not want to take part in the First World War, but we became the biggest losers, and now, our country wants to stay out of the war next door.

In his short historical overview, Zoltán Pajna highlighted István Bocskai, who managed to end a 15-year war with peace. He added that one of the symbols of this could be the saber made by the county government and carrying the idea of belonging to the Hajdú-Bihar people.

The relic is donated by the organization to all settlements in our county; Hortobágy took over on the Day of National Unity.

In his ceremonial speech, Member of Parliament Sándor Bodó emphasized that there are numerous individual tragedies among the consequences of the Treaty of Trianon and the violent dictatorship. Our ancestors, relatives, and friends have moved beyond the borders of our country, and this is the most difficult to process. He added that we have a responsibility for our compatriots who have remained across the border, as in 2010 the National Assembly also stated that all members and communities of the Hungarians who came under the rule of several states are part of the united Hungarian nation.
