A washing machine caught fire in a 10th-floor apartment in a panel building on Borbíró Square in Debrecen on Tuesday morning, causing a scare but no injuries.
The flames briefly spread to the surface of nearby furniture. Professional firefighters from Debrecen responded under the direction of the Hajdú-Bihar County Disaster Management Operations Service and extinguished the fire using a dry powder extinguisher.
Firefighters are now carrying out follow-up operations and ventilating the apartment. The elderly resident managed to leave the apartment in time.
The fire did not affect any other apartments, and no evacuation was necessary. No one else had to leave the building.
