Nature, gardening and sustainable living will take centre stage at the Botanica Expo 2026, one of the greenest venues of the Debrecen Flower Carnival. From August 18 to 23, visitors can enjoy exhibitions, inspiring talks, interactive workshops and family-friendly activities, all focused on connecting people with nature and encouraging more sustainable ways of living.
The event will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on August 18–19 and 21–23, while on August 20 it will welcome visitors from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Admission to all Botanica Expo programmes is free, although some workshops require advance registration.
A Hungary’s Hidden Natural Treasures exhibition and a plant exhibition and fair will be available every day from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The programme will feature a wide range of topics, from sustainable gardening and native wildflowers to medicinal plants, bird-friendly gardens, waste-free living and regenerative agriculture.
Highlights of the programme
August 20 will feature a presentation on the Diószegi Sámuel Botanical Garden, offering visitors an insight into one of Debrecen’s botanical gems. There will also be a sugar flower-making workshop and a session on creating bird-friendly gardens.
On August 21, visitors can discover environmentally friendly plant protection methods with Rita Gyuris, while the Gyógynövényes lány programme will explore medicinal herbs and healing flowers that can be incorporated into everyday life. Another sugar flower workshop will also be held.
The August 22 programme will include a presentation on cacti, tips on incorporating productive vegetable gardens into ornamental gardens, a textile recycling workshop and practical advice on reducing household waste.
The final day, August 23, will focus on the natural treasures of the Erdőspuszta region and regenerative agriculture, including the importance of healthy soil. The programme will conclude with Music of Gardens, an interactive presentation exploring how the electrical signals of plants can be transformed into music.
Local dance groups will perform throughout the week as part of Táncol a város!, adding a lively cultural element to the environmentally focused programme.
With its combination of practical workshops, expert talks, exhibitions and family activities, the Botanica Expo offers visitors an opportunity to discover new ways of bringing nature and sustainability into everyday life during the Debrecen Flower Carnival.
The programmes are free to attend, although advance registration is required for some workshops.
