Health Minister Zsolt Hegedűs held bilateral talks on further strengthening cooperation between the Hungarian healthcare system and the World Health Organization (WHO) with Haris Hajrulahovic, head of the WHO Country Office in Hungary, on Tuesday, the minister said on his Facebook page.

“Our goal is practical, tangible professional cooperation that builds on the WHO’s international experience while also supporting the priorities of Hungarian health policy,” he added.

According to Hegedűs, the meeting at the Ministry of Health focused in particular on strengthening primary care and prevention, developing public health programmes, applying digital healthcare and artificial intelligence-based solutions, and identifying international best practices that could also be tested in Hungary as pilot programmes.

The renewal of the two-year cooperation agreement between the WHO and Hungary for 2026–2027 was also discussed. “I consider it important that our cooperation be based on the real needs of Hungarian healthcare and deliver measurable results for patients and healthcare workers,” Hegedűs stressed.

The WHO’s professional expertise and international network can provide valuable support for the development of Hungarian healthcare, he said, adding that in the coming period they aim to translate the cooperation even more directly into concrete programmes and measurable results.
