The EU explained – 30 years of Erasmus+

National

Erasmus+ program is probably one of the most successful initiatives launched by the EU. As a matter of fact, it effected the life of millions of people in a very positive way during the last 30 years.

Let us see some interesting dates and data:

1987

Erasmus+ (at that time Erasmus) was launched as a higher education exchange program.

1997

Hungary has joined international cooperation funded by the EU in the field of higher education, later vocational training, lifelog learning, and youth programs etc.

2014

From this year on the project ran under the name of Erasmus+, and now it is opened to students, pupils, adults, teachers, trainees, volunteers, youth trainers and organizations.

2017

Erasmus celebrates the 30th anniversary of its existence. Tempus Public Foundation organizes a series of events.

5 million

5 million people benefited from the program so far.

2 million

2 million participants can join the project between 2017 and 2020.

60.000

This is the number of the Hungarian participants so far.

5000

Hungary has become an attractive host country of the exchange projects. 5000 participants arrive to the country a year.

Experiences gained abroad are extremely useful for young people. They can get to know another country and culture and an international environment. They can learn languages. This experience can be beneficial later during their professional life, for example when they apply for a job: Most of the Erasmus students remember this period as a lifetime experience.
