The Gripen was alerted on Sunday morning, the Department of Defense said. The radar signaled an unidentified aircraft on the morning of April 10, so the Hungarian Air Defense Service issued an alert and ordered a takeoff for fighter jets in the Air Defense Standby Service. The radars detected signals in the border area of the eastern part of the country around 8 p.m.
However, during the inspection of the affected airspace, the unidentified aircraft did not enter the airspace of Hungary, so the pair of vehicles remained in the area for some time for the purpose of airspace surveillance, and then returned to the base in Kecskemét.
