According to preliminary data, in February 2023, 6,526 children were born and 10,760 died. In the last 12 months, between January 2022 and February 2023, the number of births increased by 7.2 percent, the number of deaths decreased by 14 percent, and the number of marriages decreased by 45 percent compared to the period a year earlier – the Central Statistics Office (KSH).


They wrote that 6,526 children were born in February, 7.2 percent or 436 newborns more than a year earlier. 10,760 people died, 14 percent, 1,690 less than in February 2022. The natural weight loss was 4,234 people compared to 6,360 in February 2022.

It was also announced that 1,937 couples got married in February, 45 percent, 1,584 fewer than in February 2022.

Between March 2022 and February 2023, 89,752 children were born, 1.6 percent or 1,472 less than in the previous 12 months. The estimated total fertility rate was 1.55 compared to 1.56 for the previous 12 months. According to the KSH, 132,590 people died, 15 percent or 22,995 less than in the previous 12 months.

The number of births decreased to a lesser extent than the number of deaths, as a result of which the natural loss was 42,838 persons, which is 33 percent lower than the value of 64,361 persons in the previous 12 months.

In one year, 61,519 couples got married, 13 percent or 9,397 fewer than in the previous 12 months.

There were 9.3 live births and 13.7 deaths per thousand inhabitants. Live births were 0.1 and deaths 2.3 percentage points lower in February 2021-2022 than in January, as a result, natural weight loss decreased by 2.2 percentage points, to 4.4 percentage points.

There were 3.4 infant deaths per thousand live births, which is almost the same as the value of the previous 12 months. The marriage rate was 6.4 per thousand, 1.0 percentage points less than in the period a year earlier, according to the announcement of the KSH.
