The Solidarity Bus Transport Union (SZAKSZ) has announced a strike for December 10th-11th, 2023 in order to speed up wage negotiations for 2024, but Volánbusz Zrt. considers the planned two-day work stoppage unjustified. SZAKSZ announced at Friday’s conciliation meeting that it is organizing a two-day work stoppage affecting the entire workforce in order to speed up wage negotiations for 2024 at Volánbusz, the union announced on its website.

The strike was put into perspective because Volánbusz could not make an offer to the employees on Friday due to the lack of the owner’s authorization for SZAKSZ’s demand for a 25 percent wage improvement. At the same time, the top managers representing Volánbusz and MÁV Zrt. have promised that they will do everything to reach an agreement by January 20th, 2024, and that the wage improvement will be implemented on January 1st, 2024, the union announced. In its statement sent to MTI on Friday, Volánbusz Zrt. emphasized that, as a responsible employer, it is in the company’s intention and interest to conclude an agreement on next year’s wage improvement. They are committed to concluding next year’s wage negotiations by January 20th, 2024 at the latest, and to concluding the wage agreement with the rights protection organizations, they stressed. The SZAKSZ has informed on its website that the representatives of Volánbusz and the SZAKSZ have agreed that the conciliation negotiations before the strike will continue on November 27th on the topic of ensuring sufficient service.

SZAKSZ also announced that while the bus drivers will participate in the strike on both days, the maintenance workers may stop work on December 11th, the first shift from 8 to 11 a.m., the second shift from 2 to 5 p.m. On the same day, between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., the workers in white-collar jobs can join the strike call, the Solidarity Bus Transport Union announced on its website.
