Valdó Szűcs, who finished 13th in the 110-meter hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics, will continue his career in the athletics department of the Debrecen Sports Center-Sports School until the Paris Olympics. The athlete, born in Zalaegerszeg and living in New York, was honored at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, writes the Debrecen Sports Center.
Statements:
Lajos Barcsa, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen, said at the press conference: The activities of the Sportcentrum are very important for the city, as the company represents many sports and they set role models for people, thus encouraging many to play sports regularly.
I am very glad that Valdó managed to establish a new role model in Debrecen, who was the most successful male athlete at the Tokyo Olympics. The best of the hurdles at home, Luca Kozák for women and Valdó Szűcs for men, will compete with us from now on. The city management will continue to provide the support needed for the Sportcentrum to function properly in the coming years.
Valdó Szűcs stated the following:
I am very happy to be certified in DSC-SI. This year was very difficult, I also struggled with a little injury. I went out to the Olympics wanting to run an individual summit, I was eight hundred behind the final, but that’s why I’m very motivated now that time will benefit me in the future. There will be three big world events next year, I want to show you what I know, I really want to run in the finals.
